Sealing your doors from draughts can save hundreds of dollars. Here's what a door seal is, where to get them and how to install them for free!
A door seal is typically a piece of rubber, vinyl or silicone that prevents air from flowing around the edges of your door frame and door. There are 2 types of door seals that are readily available in hardware stores:
A lot of Australian homes were not built with energy efficiency in mind, in a time when energy was cheap and wasting it wasn’t a concern. With the emergency of climate change and sky-rocketing energy costs, an efficient home is very much front of mind for homeowners and renters.
Blocking drafts and improving energy efficiency can make a more comfortable home; one that’s far cheaper to run.
Door seals and exhaust fan seals may seem small, but can they really reduce your energy use and therefore your bills?
Simply installing 2 fans and door seals will SAVE you $14/month.
That’s $168 a year, at current rates.
Not to mention the comfort of rooms that are less drafty. The seals will also block heat and make your air conditioning more efficient. You don’t want to pay to cool down the area surrounding your property.
The cost of doors seals varies depending on your requirements and how many doors you’re sealing, but the great thing about installing a door seal through the VEU program is your seals are completely free.
Even better – someone will install them for you.
Under the regulations of the VEU program, an installer must supply and install the seals on your behalf.
That means there’s literally nothing for you to pay. Once you decide you want seals, if you’re eligible, an installer from Energy Makeovers can attend your property, and supply and install the seals for free.
Giving you a saving of $168 a year (dependent on the number of seals)
Door seals aren’t too complicated to install yourself, but the easiest way to install a door seal is to have us do it for you.
It doesn’t get easier than that!
