Every so often we like to take stock of the work we do, the impact it has on the environment and the benefits to the country thanks to incentives like the Victorian Energy Upgrades program.
We updated back in early 2018 that we were solely responsible, thanks to the energy efficiency upgrades we have completed in homes and businesses, for abating 4 million tonnes of carbon across Victoria.
We’re now close to 5 million tonnes abated, thanks to energy efficiency upgrades like LED lighting retrofits. We can measure our progress by the number of VEECs (Victorian Energy Efficiency Certificates) that we, as a business, have registered with the governing body. It now sits at over 4.8 million. These certificates represent 1 tonne of carbon abated. Therefore 4.8 million certificates are 4.8 million tonnes of carbon abated.

That’s almost 5 million tonnes of fossil-fuel generated energy that was not required and means those precious and finite resources are left in the ground, for now.
To put that into perspective that’s almost:
- 12,406,947,891 miles not driven by petrol and diesel cars
- 562,619,557 of petrol
- 11,576,057 barrels of oil
- 637,661,110,712 smartphones charged
- 576,967 homes powered by energy

When Bryn and Bruce started Energy Makeovers their goal was to build a new breed of “energy services company” and reduce carbon emissions. As Energy Makeovers hits 10 years old we have become the largest creator of VEECs since the program’s inception and we’re proud of our service, our work and our team.
