You could save up to 75%** on your home hot water costs

A heat pump hot water system is designed to absorb heat from the surrounding air using a special thermal fluid that works even in cold weather. The system compresses the fluid to increase its temperature and transfers that heat to the stored water, using less energy.

Estimates from Sustainability Victoria show that these systems use approximately 60% – 75% less electricity** than a traditional electric hot water system, potentially reducing your electricity costs.

FAQ's to consider...

Who is eligible for the hot water heat pump rebate in Victoria?

You must be the owner-occupier of the applicable property
The household combined taxable income must be less than $210,000
The property must be valued at less than $3m
The property has not had a solar battery or Hot Water Rebate previously
The existing hot water system must be more than 3 years old.
We have more information about the hot water heat pump rebate, here.

What is the difference between a solar hot water heater and a heat pump?

A solar hot water heater uses the sun’s energy to heat water through a solar energy system (panels). A heat pump extracts heat from the air, ground, or water using electricity to warm the water, making it efficient year-round, even in colder climates. Heat pumps are generally more versatile. The choice between the two depends on your budget and energy considerations.

Can I choose the brand/manufacturer of hot water heat pump is installed?

In theory, yes. We give our customers the option to choose a brand or product they prefer. However, selecting a product that is not in stock may significantly delay the completion of your hot water heat pump upgrade.
Also note: The hot water heat pump unit must be listed in the product registry of the ESC (Essential Services Commission). Otherwise it will not be eligible for VEU rebates.

What happens if there’s a problem with my system after installation?

While it’s rare, issues can sometimes arise. During installation, our certified plumber will thoroughly test your system to ensure it’s functioning properly and meets your satisfaction. Should any issues occur afterwards, our team will be happy to resolve them and will promptly attend to your property within the warranty period.

How can I ensure Energy Makeovers are the right hot water heat pump installer?

This is a great question and one we encourage you to ask! First, we have been in business since 2008, so our warranties mean something. Secondly, we have almost 4.5/5 star rating on Google from hundreds of reviews and have been an Accredited Partner through the VEU program since its inception. We also have a Case Study page we’d love you to visit to read some of our success stories. We’re Australian-owned, based and run, and our team are dedicated to ensuring the products and installation supplied are of the highest quality. We remain brand agnostic to ensure our customers receive only the best.

Is it a FREE hot water Upgrade?

No. There is a co-payment required. There are no free hot water heat pump installation rebates in the VEU program. Therefore, all Victorians–whether businesses or residential–will be required to pay an upfront fee for a hot water system upgrade.

How do how water heat pumps work?

A hot water heat pump works exactly the same way your air condition split system does to warm up your house:
1. A fan in your outdoor unit will draw surrounding air.
2. The heat in the air is absorbed by a refrigerant flowing within the unit transferring the heat from the air to the water in the water tank providing your hot water.

And yes, our range of hot water heat pumps also work in winter as the refrigerant has an anti-freeze that prevents it from freezing.

Why is a hot water heat pump energy efficient?

In comparison to other systems, such as an electric boiler, they use less electricity since heat pumps transfer heat as opposed to generating it. This can reduce carbon emissions and reach efficiency levels close to 600% (meaning they deliver up to 6 times as much energy as they consume).

What size heat pump will I need?

We recommend:
170 Lt unit for 1-2 people
200 Lt unit for 2-4 people
300Lt unit for 5+ people

It is important to keep in mind if you are considering a family expansion in the future (eg.: kids or pets), or if you tend to have multiple guests at home. If you are unsure, our team of experts will be happy to guide you – just complete the form below to receive a call back.

Can my hot water heat pump work in conjunction with solar panels?

Absolutely! If you have solar panels, we will connect your hot water heat pump to your existing energy supply so your solar panels can power your unit.

What is the warranty period on a hot water heat pump?

Our hot water heat pump range comes with a 5-year product warranty, and Energy Makeovers offers a 2-year labour warranty. However, product warranties may change based on suppliers so we recommend you to check the Midea and Emerald websites for the most up-to-date information.

Considerations for choosing the right hot water heat pump for your property will be: efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

You’ll need to know your household’s hot water usage and the available space for installation.
Additionally, the hot water heat pump’s energy efficiency and size should match your property’s needs to avoid unnecessary energy consumption.

Here’s a handy list of considerations:

Energy Efficiency: Look for models with high energy ratings to ensure optimal performance and lower running costs.

Capacity: Ensure the heat pump can meet your household’s hot water demands, considering factors like family size and usage patterns.

Warranty & Reliability: Check the manufacturer’s warranty and reputation for reliability to ensure long-term performance.

Space Requirements: Consider the space available for installation and any special installation requirements, such as additional components or space for air circulation.

Noise Levels: Some heat pumps can be noisy, so consider the noise levels if the unit will be installed near living areas.

Cost & Budget

Brand Reputation: Choose a reputable brand with positive reviews and a history of quality products and customer support.

Or, let Energy Makeovers do the hard-work for you. We research all brands and products before bringing them to market. All products offered have also been approved through the VEU program. We can help you assess your property’s water needs and work with you to select the right hot water heat pump for your property, Including utilising the highest level of hot water rebate available.
