Which Australian state gets the most sunshine? We break it down for you by state in this helpful graph. Check out where you rank!
In our business, we are big advocates for solar energy; not only do we install solar energy systems across Melbourne, but we encourage other states and State Governments to increase their solar energy incentives, installations and other renewable energy alternatives.
The future is in renewables.
Melbourne is renowned for its inclement weather. As we say here in Melbourne “if you don’t like the weather, just wait a minute”. Infamous for our 4-seasons-in-a-day whinging. But, do we actually receive the least amount of sunshine compared to the other states?
We thought we’d do a helpful breakdown of how much sun each Australian state receives in a year. Check where your state lands, unless you’re from Melbourne, in which case I have some disappointing news for you (if you love sunshine).
As you can see, Western Australia gets the most hours of sunshine in the year. It destroys Melbourne’s stats, seeing over 35% more sunshine hours than we do!
Now that you know just how much sun your state gets, we can shout about solar energy!
Yes! Even with our poor sunshine stats, in comparison to the other states, we still receive a phenomenal amount of sunshine in Australia and despite some of our fantastic complaints, Melbourne still gets its fair share.

Make sure you select a solar energy installation partner that is CEC Accredited and has a history behind them. At Energy Makeovers, we have both! Get in touch to install a solar energy system for your home or business.
And, for a bit of fun; below is an infographic (apologies it’s a couple of years old now) all about renewable energy in Australia. According to energy.gov:
