We're encouraged to upgrade our lights to LED but are LEDs the best lighting technology available? Yes and here's why they are.
State governments around Australia (and many other countries and their governments) offer incentives to upgrade the lights in your home or business to LED in order reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions as states, territories and countries, like Australia, aim to curb their carbon emissions and hit their Paris Climate Agreement targets.
When compared to the greenhouse gas emitting industries like coal energy production, industrial agriculture and emissions from transport, it might feel like upgrading your lights to LED is a small change, but they can have a significant impact on your energy demands and your energy bills and when millions of homes across the country upgrade their lights to LED the cumulative effect reduces the carbon emissions of Australia by millions of tonnes.
Why LED?
LEDs are currently the most energy-efficient lights available. We say ‘currently’ because technology is always changing and there’s always the chance they won’t always be in the number 1 position. Perhaps you’re reading this in 2040 and another lighting technology has overtaken LED! But, in the meantime, LEDs are our best option.
So, whether you’re upgrading your fluorescent lights, shoplights, highbays, downlights, incandescents and CFLs, it’s definitely worth making the step to upgrade to LED to reduce your own energy costs and help the environment.
LEDs are currently the most energy-efficient lights available. We say ‘currently’ because technology is always changing and there’s always the chance they won’t always be in the number 1 position.
They’re instantly bright, don’t get hot to produce light and are therefore safer and their energy consumption isn’t lost to heating elements. They can last for decades, never ‘flicker’ and the quality of the light is more evenly distributed and never dulls over time.
Should you make the step and upgrade to LED? Are LEDs more energy efficient than other globes and if so, why? Find out here.
We answer the question - are LEDs more efficient that CFLs and is it worth your time upgrading your property from CFL to LED?
What is the difference between a standard downlight and an integrated modular (IC Rated) downlight? And, are they free to upgrade?
