How Can I Tell If My Downlights Can Be Upgraded for FREE?

Is it time to upgrade your halogen downlights to energy-efficient LEDs? Have you had a friend or neighbour who recently had their downlights upgraded to LED for free with the VEET scheme and you’re wondering if you’d be eligible as well?

Here’s some handy tips to see if your property, whether residential or commercial is eligible to upgrade for free thanks to the Victorian Energy Saver Incentive.

An older halogen 50W downlight lamp looks like this:

They burn at a whopping 300oc degrees or more. Advances in lighting technology has brought us brilliant energy-efficient LEDs and thanks to the Energy Saver Incentive you can upgrade your property’s downlights for free. This is the LED bulb we use for most of our upgrades:

the MR500 led lamp

This is the EcoMatters MR500, an MR16 7W. It produces 65% less heat than a halogen bulb and has a standard life span of 50,000 hours, 20 times longer than a halogen.

So, as long as the lights you’re replacing are older halogen bulbs, like in the picture above, they’re eligible for replacement.

Other factors you’ll need to consider for eligibility will be whether you’re using a dimmer and if you have a transformer. If you’re unsure the best way to find out is to contact us and we can let you know if your lighting system is eligible to take advantage of our free LED upgrade service. Give us a call on 1300 788 776 or complete our online form and we’ll ring you.

Post update: Please note that as of June 2017 downlight lighting upgrades will now incur a $99 call-out fee irrespective of minimum number of lights to upgrade.
