How to seal your doors

What is a door seal?

A door seal is typically a piece of rubber, vinyl or silicone that prevents air from flowing around the edges of your door frame and door. There are 2 types of door seals that are readily available in hardware stores:

  1. Door bottom seals, also known as a floor sweep. This is at the bottom of the door between the door and the floor.
  2. V-strip, also known as a tension seal or weather seal. This is typically a piece of flexible plastic/vinyl. It’s self-sticking

A lot of Australian homes were not built with energy efficiency in mind, in a time when energy was cheap and wasting it wasn’t a concern. With the emergency of climate change and sky-rocketing energy costs, an efficient home is very much front of mind for homeowners and renters.

Blocking drafts and improving energy efficiency can make a more comfortable home; one that’s far cheaper to run.

How much does a door seal cost?

The cost of doors seals varies depending on your requirements and how many doors you’re sealing, but the great thing about installing a door seal through the VEU program is your seals are completely free.
