For those not in the know, in the last decade, under the previously titled VEET scheme, Victorian residents were able to upgrade their incandescent globes to CFL as an energy-efficient upgrade. So, this might seem a little confusing if you had your lights upgraded from incandescent to CFL somewhat recently.
But, it’s true. Even if you have recently upgraded your incandescent globes to CFL in the last few years, you’ll still be eligible to upgrade those CFLs to LED. You also might want to know why this is now an option and why did you bother upgrading the CFL last time?
LEDs are now the best and most energy-efficient light globes available. This wasn’t always the case and LEDs that were available were very expensive. Technology and industry growth have meant that LEDs have come down in cost and are now readily available. The technology behind CFLs has not developed as quickly as LEDs have and so upgrading to LEDs is now a better option than upgrading to CFLs. So, the VEU program has chosen to include them under the energy-efficiency retrofit program, because LEDs are more energy-efficient than CFLs.
We appreciate it’s a bit confusing and thought it might help if you could see some facts and figures, so below is an infographic we have created to help you understand why LEDs are more energy-efficient than CFLs and why you should upgrade straight to LEDs and bypass CFLs.
