Do you have to install a battery when you install a solar energy system? We're often asked this question. Learn more.
If yes, you might be curious about your options. What are the costs of a solar upgrade, exactly what products do you need and how many solar panels would your roof require? These are common questions we hear from our customers who are dipping their toe in the solar energy water.
The great news is, yes you can install a solar energy system on your home or business without a battery. Solar battery storage is a fantastic addition to a solar energy system but it is quite possible and still a fantastic energy system without one. In buildings where a battery is not included in the solar energy system the building can draw power directly from the sun. And during periods of darkness (like night time) or if the weather goes grey your system will have the ability to switch back to drawing energy from main grid-power.
This means you can enjoy renewable and 100% FREE energy during sunny periods of the day. This is pretty useful during hot summer days when your energy-guzzling air conditioning can be fed from solar energy instead of increasing the demand on grid-energy. Remember those rolling black outs in South Australia?
Even better, battery storage options can be retrofitted. So, if you’re not sure if you have the financial resources or are unsure if you would need solar battery storage for your property just yet, you can wait and install battery storage at a later date after your solar panels (photovoltaic system) has already been installed.
The benefit of a battery is that during night time and dark weather your property can still rely on solar energy thanks to the back up storage. This means you no longer need to rely on main-grid energy and you will be able to supply your own 100% renewable and FREE energy for the lifetime of your solar energy system.
With an average payback period of 3-5 years and a system that starts saving you money from the day it’s installed, upgrading to solar is a significant investment for the future.
