The Victorian Energy Efficiency Target upgrades and expands to include large energy & save 5.9 million tonnes of CO2 emissions in 2017!
Victoria’s fantastic energy saver incentive program, known as the VEET scheme (Victorian Energy Efficiency Target) has been rebranded and upgraded.
As of August 2017 the program is now called Victorian Energy Upgrades Program (or VEU program). With this upgrade, the program has expanded to include large energy users. These large energy users were previously excluded as VEET focused on small-to-medium properties.
The new program is predicted to save homes and businesses $400 million in 2017. And, this new expansion means large energy users could save hundreds of thousands of dollars in energy bills with subsidised energy efficiency upgrades.
The VEU program has set a target of 5.9 million tonnes of CO2 emissions saved for 2017, rising to 6.5 million tonnes in 2020.
“In 2017, we’re asking our energy retailers to help reduce Victoria’s greenhouse gas emissions by
5.9 million tonnes through energy efficiency. That’s equivalent to taking 1.5 million cars off the road!” (source)
