Under the Victorian Energy Upgrades program, you can upgrade your halogen downlights to LED downlights. You probably know this. There have been many, many adverts promoting this program over the past few years – including ours!
But did you know you can upgrade more lights than just downlights, subsidised, or free, under the program?

But, today we are going to focus on whether or not you should upgrade your old, incandescent globes to LED for free under the VEU program.
Yes, you definitely should!
Incandescent globes are outdated, inefficient energy-hungry monsters. They’re the worst of the worst. They run extremely hot because, in order to generate light, the elements need to heat up. 95% of the energy consumption in these globes is spent on heating the elements.
If you upgrade your incandescent globes to LED (screw or bayonet fittings) you will reduce your lighting energy consumption by 95%. It sounds crazy, but it’s true. A typical incandescent globes uses 50w and an LED alternative needs only 5w! All of the energy that’s used by the newer LED technology goes into lighting the elements, no heat required. So, they run cooler, they last years longer and they don’t waste huge amounts of energy.
Imagine replacing all of the lights in your home (for FREE) and you could keep the lights on all day, every day, and still use less energy than lighting 1 room in your house for half of the day.
